Venous insufficiency refers to the inability of deep, or superficial veins to allow venous circulation back to the heart from the legs. This is caused by damaged venous valves and may result in symptoms including pain, swelling, skin discoloration, restless legs, and in severe cases skin ulceration. 

Coastal Cardiology of Orange County now offers venous ablation, a minimally invasive, outpatient procedure used in the treatment of the underlying cause of varicose veins and associated symptoms. Venous ablation is performed by administering heat energy within the affected vein in order to collapse, or 'ablate' the vein. This will redirect venous circulation to better functioning veins thereby improving symptoms of venous reflux. Venous ablation is covered by most insurance companies. The procedure takes approximately 20 minutes and patients typically resume their normal daily activities within 24 hours. We additionally perform sclerotherapy injections for spider veins and small to medium-sized varicose veins.
